Generally these files are in image-format. (<name>.iso). That means you can burn it with your CD-burning software. I use Nero for it, but most burn-softwares have the options burn image to CD or something alike. After that you will have a bootable Ubuntu-CD

If you would like more detailed instructions, please provide me with the file-extension and what burning-software you are using.

Data CD DVD ....
Burn...
Add a file to project ..
It burned but when I put it in the other computer and made sure BIOS boot order was CD-rom first ...it started to spin and by passed right on by ....
the hard drive is totally formated and has 2 empty partitions right now

This topic was created when I posted in the other one. I posted my instructions there. I will copy them here.

Oke, here are the steps you should take. If you have any questions, post back
  • Insert an empty writable disk in your CD-drive
  • Start Free Easy CD DVD burner.
  • Click on the Copy CD/DVD button (top of screen).
  • In the left panel, under Action, click on Burn an image file
  • Select the Ubuntu-file you downloaded and click Open.
  • You will get a box that asks you if you want to burn that file. Click OK and follow the process.
You should now have a bootable Ubuntu-CD.

When you loaded the CD into the computer, did you get an Ubuntu screen where you get to choose
which procedure you want to do? If not, there are a few things that may be the problem.
Bad download or wrong image file
errors on CD
Faulty CD/ROM

Give link to where you downloaded the image from and which image you downloaded.

If the CD is good you should be able to run it as a "live CD" in either computer provided you have sufficient RAM.

It is best to write the .ISO to a CD using a low speed to reduce chances of error

When you downloaded the iso image, did you check its checksum? If it doesn't match one of the sums in this list, it's a bad image. Also, I recommend downloading all images from this location: http://releases.ubuntu.com/jaunty/, instead of picking a mirror. The images here are more likely to "healthy," and the site also has an md5sum list.

What you're experiencing may also a hardware issue/incompatibility, but I'm not sure.

That is the site where you choose a mirror. I prefer the one I linked to, because the files are good and they download fast. To answer your question, I would save it as a file, then open it with the CD burning software. That way, if the burn were to be unsuccessful, you can try again without having to download the iso image again.

I sometimes have the same problem with boot-CD's. I never burn at the maximum speed (just select the one below the maximum speed) and that gives less problems.
