Many users are aware of Process Explorer from SysInternals, which is so handy that it was bought by MicroSoft, but judging by the questions still being asked then many are not.

If you are wondering what all those strange abbreviations are in Task Manager, and why you have multiple svchost.exe entries, then Process Explorer is for you.

Have a play with it and learn a lot about what is happening in the background on your machine.

I've been using Process Explorer for quite a while. I think Microsoft ought to scrap the Task Manager and integrate Process Explorer! It's that good.

I too like Process Explorer - very handy :thumbsup:

I wish Microsoft would scrap task manager and replace it with Process Explorer - we can hope!

Found this in the Help files by searching for "color"

Configure Highlighting: select this menu item under the Options menu to open a dialog box that allows you to configure highlight colors used in the Process View and the DLL view.

You can customize them to your liking.

I guess I am in the minority once again as I really am not impressed with this program. The only good thing I find about Process Explorer is it tells what programs go to what processes but it does it such a way that I find it to be quite confusing. I have found many other easier ways to find out what progam each process belongs to. I actually find TaskManager more informative, especially for finding out what each process is consuming on my system. I would not like it at all if Microsoft substitutes Process Explorer for TaskManager

Another option is DTaskManager by Dimio which you can find here: http://dimio.altervista.org/eng/ about 2/3 - 3/4 of the way down the page. I really like this one, but I still use the built in Task Manager for some purposes. I never did relate well to Process Explorer. Perhaps it's the way I process information.

I luckily have a copy of PROCESS EXPLORER from before M$ infected it,it is an excellent program!!!

I like the "End process tree" option,then you can be shure all DLL's,etc associated with a program are out of memory
