This isn't like the regular flu that you can just ride out.

Yes it is. The CDC says it isn't any more severe than typical seasonal flu, and it is treatable with anti-flu drugs (Tamiflu + one other that slips my mind).
+

The reason I said it wasnt like the regular flu that you can just ride out, is until today, I was under the impression that if you got it you had to get medicine in order to get rid of it, whereas the regular flu, you just ride it out and it goes away on its own without a trip to the doctor and medication. Finally today they said that this one usually does not require medication either, so I stand corrected, happily so.

After hearing the news today, even though there are now 9 probable cases in my state, 8 pretty much in my area, I am really not that worried about it anymore

I am going to take this opportunity to say something to all that people should do when they are sick but many rarely do. When you are sick, send someone else to get your prescriptions and groceries and if you cannot do that and have to go yourself, use the self checkout. When you go through the checkout line, you are putting that checker and the following customers at great risk of getting whatever it is you have, as that checker will be touching everything you have touched and then they will be touching everything the following customers have. It is impossible for the checker to wash their hands inbetween every customer so it can spread like wildfire there, especially since most of what is bought in a grocery store is going to be eaten.

I concur based on what we are being told now. The initial hyped-up reaction fueled by the media (and in the US somewhat by VP Biden) is now settling down.

Well if you haven't already heard Mexico have downgraded how many people they think have died from Swine Flu to numbers that are now common with Seasonal Flu, as I think ddeerrff has mentioned earlier in the thread.

Article For Quoted Text Below - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8030365.stm

Mexico has revised down the suspected death toll from swine flu from 176 to 101, indicating that the outbreak may not be as bad as was initially feared.

Health Minister Jose Angel Cordova told the BBC that, based on samples tested, the mortality rate was comparable with that of seasonal flu.

The news came as Mexico continues a five-day shutdown in an attempt to contain the spread of the virus.

As can be seen there are 101 suspected deaths but only 16 are confirmed so it is looking more and more like normal Flu.

Certainly been hyped up by the Media, even the 4/6 rating that the WHO (World Health Organisation) has given the flu is probably over the top although maybe about right based on the fact that there have been a few transmissions from person to person reported in other countries apart from Mexico think a few in the US and 1 in the UK.

its called people overreact. I mean look at the current recession. You know the media started screaming recession before there ever was one? for there to be a recession the stock market has to keep dropping for 2 quarters, they were screaming recession before it hit 2. granted, wed probably be in one anyway, but but the media screamed it and people started saving their pennies and pulling out which just compounded the problem. People panic over little things, the media gets involved, blows the whole thing out of proportion, then you get people panicking, spreading rumors, and doing insane stuff they normally wouldnt.

Straight out of a Stephen King Novel?

No wonder he is so successfull?

He just plays in the Paronoidia of most people, like the Media is now doing.

A very old Man, originally from Hungary, once told me that The Flu Virus Hates Cabbage, something in the Acid that it generates. His Family survived the Spanish Flu by following it.

I have tested it on many Viruses, Human, and it does work.

Just a diet of boiled Cabbage and Vegetables, Not Protien whatsoever for a few days, then the Virus removes itself, guess where?

Medical People would never suggest this because there is no Profit to be made from a Natural Solution.

No Harm can ever be done, so next time you get the Flu, just try it?

We never need to be Paronoid about one of Nature's so called Gifts, just use Nature's Remedy back against it.

@the_patriot09
Although not related to this thread just need to point out something, I think it might be a slight spelling mistake, maybe the wrong words were written?, but it isn't stock markets dropping that is used to define a recession you are right about 2 quarters but it is based on GDP data being negative for 2 quarters, GDP being what the whole country produces through the year.

Although your point on people panicking is right, just an example here. A bank in the UK is called Northern Rock, this bank was nationalised by the Government in October 2007 because people panicked and started removing all their money from the bank meaning it had no deposits leading to it running out of money but also hearing about all the losses it may make because of the amount of derivatives it had amassed i.e. shifting risk from it's balance sheet to another Banks by paying for something similar to insurance, these were otherwise known as the dreaded CDO's (Credit Default Swaps) these were mainly being provided by Lehmann Brothers and AIG (In Northern Rocks case, I think) but because the US housing market collapsed around the Summer in 2007 these losses mounted up for Northern Rock (It was also heavily reliant on wholesales funding, Rich Investors & Funding Groups or even other Banks) which was asked to pay back money quicker than it could which caused the panicking and the collapse of Northern Rock which needed over £30 billion in loans from HM Treasury.

Anyway back on topic

Here is an article that is well worth the read about people panicking from what they hear on the News amongst other Media outlets - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8031132.stm

You may have heard that the Mexican Government have sort of closed parts of the economy down for 5 days to just contain the spread of Swine Flu a bit more, the family in this story bought a load of food even though supermarkets will be still open.

In the article it mentions most cases are around Mexico City which they say has smog there most days from the pollution which causes respiratory problems which is the main thing about Swine Flu and how it is described as causing respiratory problems very similar to what happens every year in Mexico City, So we might be able to guarantee that those suspected cases of Swine Flu deaths will probably go down more.

Hardly a Stephen King novel. That is a bit of a drastic comparison. One thing has nothing to do with the other.

Pandy?

From Post 2 I have likened this to a Stephen King Novel, from the Hype given to it by the Media. That has been vindicated by the revelations since.

Whilst the Media has a Duty to provide News, this one is certainly not one of their most Truthful ones as we are seeing?

Abacus 7

I will definitely give your method a try next time I get the flue.....which I seldom do.
Mind you, I am not sure what is worse.....the flu or the boiled cabbage.... :flowers:

Last time I had the flu, was three years ago, after my doctor suggested he gave me a flu jab.
One hour after the jab, I was down with a bad case of flu.... :trumpet:
I was not very generous or particularly polite the next time I saw my doctor.... :inlove: ....

Yeeees Abacus 7 I am aware of your other reference to Stephen King and I still find it out of place. As for vindication, I see what you mean, but IMHO I do not feel the comparison is appropriate.
