How about some specs on this system so that we know what we are working with.

One must always know what one is dealing with.
Then we can see if we can find 98 drivers

Well, I haven't even gotten to the Windows 98 desktop. It's in one of the final stages of setup where it tries to find plug-and-play devices, but VMWare doesn't seem to like that part of setup. But, for what it's worth...

-2 GB DDR2 RAM
-NVIDIA 8400GS
-Intel Pentium 4 631 3GHz
-Some IDT sound codec

If anyone's still around in this topic...found this which may explain why it's not working (if that is still the case):

QUOTE
Note: Some Microsoft Windows 98 OEM disks included with new computers are customized for those computers and include device drivers and other utilities specific to the hardware system. Even if you can install this Windows 98 operating system on your actual computer, you may not be able to install it in a VMware Workstation virtual machine. You may need to purchase a new copy of Windows to install in a virtual machine.
