Windows not responding.

I am having a real issue at the moment where my laptop is freezing and the internet page, msn, anything that's open really keeps saying that it is 'not responding'. I have loads of memory and I have performed a disc clean up and de-frag, but that doesn't seem to have helped. Has anyone any ideas?
