I have not been able to fix this, . . in fact I was pretty much hoping it would just go away, but it didn't, does anyone have any idea what the problem is here ?

My help and support page looks like the following, lots of blanks where titles should be, . . etc. :

Did you try to do SFC /SCANNOW with Windows XP CD in the CD Drive?

That I would like to try, but unfortunately my friend, I don't have an installation CD, my Compaq Presario from Staples, didn't come with one!

But your suggestion is appreciated.

UPDATE: If you have no CD, but you do have an I386 directory or CD image somewhere, check out this article: How do I tell Windows where my I386 folder has moved? Once you make the changes therein, you should be able to run SFC to completion.
