Tried to roll back a day using System Restore on my HP laptop Vista home prem sp1, and it did all the shutting down and starting up etc, but I then got a message saying 'System Restore encountered a problem' - and basically it hadnt rolled back.

There are plenty of restore points but I probably cannot get to any. Ive never used system restore on this laptop before, as its still new.

I have got Zone Alarm free firewall running, and Avast - I dont know if any of these conflict with system restore.

any idea what i can do?

Have you tried to restore in Safe Mode?

I havent tried that. I will give it a go. Is it Safe Mode you are supposed to use for System Restore?
