computer freezing up, please help!!!

i turn the laptop on and it goes to the desktop fine and then i try to click on anything there, it just freezes up i guess. it wont go past the desk top in the last 4 hrs, whats going on here guys, dont know much about a puter, but i have never seen this !! where do i start to try to fix this problem, thanks alot :huh:

windows vista, now when i click on a browser on my puter does nothin, even when i try to bring up my control panel it will freeze up!!
