BleepingComputer.com: Vista backup

I did a Vista Backup a while ago, but now it won't backup on the same disk, it tells me to use a new one.?
I used 2 RW disks.

I then tried deleting the stuff on the disks and reformatting using the default settings, but now it says there's not enough room on the disk!

It sounds like your disks cant be rewritten to. Can your disk drive write to RW disks? I am assuming that the RW disks you have are actually rewritable.

These are the disks I used last time, so obviously it can write to it at least once.

Aren't all RW disks rewritable? I thought that's what RW stood for.

It might be a safety feature in the backup program so you don't have all your backups in one place, but I don't think that's the issue. In answer to your question, look on the drive and see if it says CD-RW on it. It should also have a icon that says "compact disk ReWritable" You can also check to see if your drive model can write to RW disks. CD-RW disks need to be blanked before reuse, unless you use a program capable of multi-session burning, which the vista backup program cannot do.

RW disks use a laser to heat the crystalline structure of the recording material to an amorphous state, or back to a crystalline state (at a lower temp). I am not sure if reformatting the disk would not have brought the crystalline structure back, enabling a rewrite
