Hi Geoff,
It seems this error is more often than not solved by editing 2 registry keys which is very dangerous it could leave your computer unusable meaning the Operating System (Windows) needs to be reinstalled from scratch, And since you don't have much computer know how it would be foolish of me to ask you to try it.
Do you know anyone who is slightly experienced in computers like a Family Member, Friend or Neighbour who could come around and help you or follow through, I would advise you don't do anything with this until you can get someone to come and guide you through it.
You will need this link before you try the fix which is to back up the registry - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756
Here is the link detailing the information for the fix - http://www.randomfix.com/2007/04/12/window...ddvd-rom-drive/
Thanks

Hi WOODYBLADE.
Thanks for allyour help.
After backing up the registry,
I clicked your second link which took me
straight to HKEY_LOCAL etc etc.
But could only find "upper filter"on the right side,
So I decided to deleit it i then shut down my PC
restarted looked in "computer" and to my great joy
saw my DVDRW DRIVE icon.
AND IT WORKS GREAT.
Again thanks. Geoff.
