I had a computer built with Windows Vista 64 bit. After running the optical drive sucessfully for 5 months, all of a sudden when I tried to run a CD or DVD AFTER bringing the computer back from sleep mode, the drive wouldn't do anything. I'd have to shut down and reboot and it would be fine. I returned it to the folks that built it and the bottom line was that they felt that after Microsoft installed an update (they couldn't say which one), it had corrupted something in my computer and I had only two options. Either do a complete reinstall of Vista and they couldn't guarantee that it wouldn't happen again, or just don't use the Standby mode. Well, I chose the latter rather than pay for a complete reinstallation (as they considered it the fault of Microsoft rather than theirs) and reinstalling all of my software. Can anyone tell me if this sounds legitimate? I know nothing about computers other than running the software I currently have on it. I mostly use my computer for Adobe Photoshop CS4 and Internet and Email. Thanks.

Hi ginnydee,
Dnuge beat me to it! If you go through the support doc that he put in, make sure you have administrator rights on that account you’re running, otherwise you won’t be able to change the settings you need to change.
Let me know if this helps. If not, I can keep digging and find another fix.
Cheers,
Ron
