Best Free Firewall

Hi, just wondered what free firewalls are the best?, im looking for one that is easy to use.

I like Comodo. It does not use much resources and is easy to configure.

I like either ZoneAlarm or Comodo.

But Comodo is alright too.

Best security and easy to use don't really go together. Probably Comodo, Online Armor and Outpost provide the best security. Windows Firewall is the easiest to use.

Windows firewall in XP is not good enough (dont know about Vista, thought it was better)

Some may disagree, but my personal opinion that Vista/XP's inbuilt firewall plus a routers hardware firewall is sufficient.

If you torrent and do illegal stuff on the web, Comodo is the best software firewall.

Hard to configure at first but definetly the safest

I thought torrents bypass conventional firewalls.

I use Comodo now, as I had trouble with ZoneAlarm, both the free, and paid version, which I got when it was being offered for free.

By using p2p-software, you allow your firewall to open a port. Through that port can enter all kind of not-so-nice stuff without being picked up by your firewall.

It's only not "good enough" in that it doesn't provide outbound protection. However, if malware has already infected your system you can't rely on any firewall to stop it, and you should focus on preventing malware in the first place. Also firewalls that provide good security such as Comodo and Online Armor are not really usable for most people because of the time and knowledge required to answer pop ups correctly.

Comodo now has a new version currently undergoing beta testing, but should be released soon.

This has far fewer popups to answer owing to extensive whitelisting, even in it's strongest proactive configuration.

PC Tools Firewall Plus is a more novice style firewall that I use. It had good rating in Matousec Firewall Challange so I am trying it right now. Was very easy to setup things seem faster on line than before, may be my imagination.
