There are many things that can cause a computer to "freeze" .
The first thing to do is a really good clean\up & defrag the hard drive.
Also do a maleware scan.
If you don't have a malware removal utility Malwarebytes is pretty good [& free] .

Install Malwarebytes , do a scan, remove everything it finds.
Once you have all of that done if the computer is still "freezing" post the brand & model of the computer + what version of Windows you have.

If you have a "brand name" computer [Dell,HP,Compaq, etc.] there should be a sticker on the back that gives the model number.
You could download & install PC Wizard.
It is a utility that will give you all of the information about the computer.
If you use it post want it says for Mainboard.

Firstly, how often does it freeze? Does it freeze as soon as you get in? Does it freeze in Safe Mode?
If yes to freezing in Safe Mode and as soon as you log in, I would say it's a hardware problem - so check HDD, RAM, CPU. Otherwise, do malware scans, Defrag etc. Can you get through these succesfully without it freezing on you?
Is your HDD full?
