When I put this box together I thought I made a large enough primary partition, I have a ton of space on the D but C is getting very crowded. Is there a way to safely remove/move a partition in XP, I read an article about using disc management but being as this build is running so good it leaves me a little spooky. I do have Partition Magic but it is for 98 hate to have to buy another copy.

Hi, a friend of mine had a similiar problem but the thing was that he had vista. In vista what you would have done was shrink D, then right click on C and click extend.
Now in your case I believe you have to have windows xp pro, then you go to the device, disk drivers, right click on your D: check if there is anything listed as shrinkg or something such as resize.

I have xp home so, I can't remember the last time i tried it.
A simple solution to this is, move mydocument, my music to D drive and any new programs isntall it on D: also that way you can save space.

hi, I think I have found the solution for you using a freeware program.
It is called Easeus Partition Manager it is free and what you can do is merge both of them together.

Here is the website
http://www.partition-tool.com/
I prefer this over partition magic

The program I posted, I use it my self ver easy and has lots of help topics.
here is how you merge a prtition
http://blog.easeus.com/basic-guide/How-to-...anager-163.html
Also when you are going to merge D: with C: make sure that there is not data on d move it to c or burn it on a dvd. Now that D: is empty, you delete the partition, it becomes unallocated then you merge it with C:.

PS, I think we both found the same program, look at our URL.

:flowers:

Often Moving Data onto D: will free up Space and also installing Programs onto D: instead of C: will take a load off it all.

Be sure to Back up your Data before experimenting with any Patitioning Software. It is just Logical to do it, Just In Case, Mate.

I am just a newbie as far as computers are concerned and I am learning lots.

Anyway, I wanted to partition my hard drive and I read the tutorial on Gparted.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/resizing-adding-partitions-with-gparted-live/

I followed the instructions and downloaded the program and tried it out on an old computer and it is really simple to use.

Then I did my good computer. It works really well.

I guess would say I took the Cowards Way out! I moved the swap file into the big partition and dumped some unused programs, from this point on I will load anything new into the big partition. Thanks for all the ieads and thoughtful help.

hey, that is no problem, look at it on a plus sign if you actually have a backup if your C gets corrupted or you have to reinstall XP atleast you have the backup. That is how I have set mine.
