I am experiencing a rather strange thing with my sons computer.
If he runs any programs it will start up and run normally.
It will close itself unexpectedly after 5 mins. or so.
This isnt a problem with a scanning program because they continue
to run after they close the main window.
How ever, it is a problem taking a test online for school or working with MS Word
trying to get your homework done.
Ive run scans with Spysweeper(W / AV), AVG, Spybot, Adaware. Nothing comes up.
ever seen this before?
Any ideas?
Thanks

Different machine.
Im not thinking this is a virus.
We just uninstalled a lot of games- I mean A LOT.
He had about a hundred or so internet games.
Little things that only work while your connected.
Now they are gone and full page applications close down after about 5 mins.
Sytem restore didnt help the problem either.
Thanks

Still have the same problem with this laptop.
Im not sure what it could be.
I tried a memory test program that said it tests okay.
Ive done a scan disk.
I dont know what else could cause this.
Doesnt matter which program I start.
They work okay for about 5 mins or so then they just turn off like someone clicked on the exit button.
Only they dont offer to save your work they just close.

You might try, since you have deleted a ton of stuff, defragging your hard drive.

I agree with house cleaning do a Defrag like mentioned above and also do Scandisk, if the problem continues try http://secunia.com/ I am very impressed with their free scanning utilities. If you have any skepticism read the press reviews in the menu on the left. Some of the Garus up here need to check it out it may end up in the preferred free program menu.

I have diskeeper on all my machines so that wasnt it.
However it was just the direction I needed to go,
the software scan. Outstanding.
Who would think that Adobe Flash player being out of date would cause
such problems.
There was also 12 installations of JAVA.
Now there is one.
All patched up and working like a dream.
Thanks guys. Thats wasnt as bad as I feared it was going to be.
