In IE7 I get message Can't find server

Just this morning a friend called and told me that in Internet Explorer 7 he is getting the message can't find server. What is strange is that when he uses Firefox he is able to get on the internet and go anyplace he wants. I thought it might be the Conflicker virus but he is able to get to McAfee, Norton, etc. without any problem.

One interesting thing is that he had read that if you can't get into Safe Mode that you probably did have the Conflicker Virus. Well I tried and he can't get into Safe Mode. I'm still not sure that he has this virus but I'm going to download the removal tool.

Does anyone have any idea of what I might do?

Start Internet Explorer. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, click Reset. In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset to confirm.
