CNN, not to mention every major news media outlet, recently talked about the President's repealing of the Conscience Law. According to CNN.com (2009), The Conscience Clause, which was proposed by the Bush administration and enacted on January 20th of this year, is a law that gives individuals- and even entire institutions- the right to refuse administering treatment or engaging in certain procedures that are contradictory to their beliefs. President Obama will apparently repeal this law some time in the future. My questions are simple: Is this the right course of action, does the current law violate the separation of Church and State, and if so why? Do you have any suggestions, workarounds, etc., that differ from, or even complement the President's current course of action, such as restricting the parameters of people who are able to decline the conducting of contradictory procedures/administrations of medicine? Also, is there anything beneath the surface of this law that would call for it's repealing?
