Hi. Is it trying to download a driver?

Please see this:
Windows Update error 80070103

Applies to all editions of Windows Vista.

If you receive Windows Update error 80070103 while installing updates, you might be trying to install a driver that is already installed on your computer or a driver that has a lower compatibility rating than one you already have installed. To find more information or to get help, try these options:
• If you want to install the latest driver for a specific device, program, or game, try manually updating the driver instead of using Windows Update. For more information, see Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly.
• Go to the Discussions in Windows Update website to see if someone else has found a solution or to request help from other Windows users.
• Go to the Windows Update Support Center website to try to find more information about the error code or to request support by e‑mail.
• To hide the update so it is not offered again, click the plus sign (+) under the title of the update, and then select the Don't show this update again check box.

Hope that helps,
JC

If you right click on the update in the list it should show an option that says Hide update. Click it, then click Continue at the UAC prompt and you're done  . Just out of curiosity though, what update is it showing that keeps failing?

Oh, ok. The resolution should be fairly easy then. Considering MS doesn't update the drivers they supply very often you should be able to get a newer version of that driver directly from Realtek. Just be sure to pick the one for your version of Vista (32bit or 64bit). If you're not sure which, just right-click the Computer icon and select Properties and it will say either 32bit Operating System or 64bit Operating System. Once the driver's installed Windows Update shouldn't offer it anymore since you'll have either the same or a newer version installed. It would be a good idea to update it from Realtek though, rather than not, because new driver versions often fix bugs, can improve performance/battery life and can increase overall system stability.

I have a few updates that have failed from the pass, is there a way i can update them again?

The updates that have failed was about 4 months ago.

Sure, if they're failed OS updates you can right click the update like I showed you before, then click View Details and in the details there should be a web link. It should connect you to the microsoft website containing info about the update and provide a link the to the kb article where you can download the standalone installer for it, which will usually install in these kinds of situations. If you can provide the info about the udpates that failed, particularly the KB###### numbers, I can look them up for you and help you find them  . To view the past updates you'll need to click View update history in the Windows Update interface. You can go through the list and find the failures, but also check to see if any or all of the failed updates were later successfully installed because if they were, there's no point in downloading them to try and install them again.

You're very welcome  . Installation hiccups like that seem to happen with updates all the time, as long as they end up getting installed you're fine. A patched OS is a happy OS  !
