I would like to try #3, but how do I access my registry?

Before you snicker, there are no "stupid " questions.

Thank you in advance.

I might as well add this question too........

Do these changes need to be done every time I restart my computer or am I misunderstanding some replies in this thread?

Not wrong - just dangerous! smile.gif

Make sure that you backup your registry prior to messing around inside it.

Actually, I ended up doing all 5 and it does seem to be faster without any problems.

I did not do a backup.

Hopefully it won't come back to bite me in the rear.

I should leave this to the professionals, but I think I may be able to answer this one.

Start, control panel, system, general tab (near the bottom).

Hopefully that works for you.

What value did you change that key to? Do you remember what the original value was set to?...Don't know what yours was originally set to but if you know change it back and see what happens...That is why you should always backup your registry before making any changes...The effects can be disasterous...

hi the fixes by tim723 certainly do work i have a toshiba 1800s which is about eight years old and these setting have had a marked improvement on the speed of getting things done, from start to firefox on the screen takes 3mins 20 secs not bad for a machine with 30gig harddrive three quarters full, my question is how do i become internet anonymous to tim723, he knew what system i was using and my ip address how did he know cheers finbar
