BleepingComputer.com: how to make a backup copy of dvd movies i own

i want to make a copy of a dvd movie that i own to play on my dvd player and keep the original safe and clean. that way if anything bad should happen to the copy i can just copy the original again. and not play the original.
dose anybody know a good free program that realy works???
