System Properties detects incorrect CPU

Hi guys

I am having a bit of a problem at the moment. My system Specs are as follows

Asus A7V-133VM Motherboard
30 GB HDD Maxtor
350 Watt PSU
AMD Athlon 1.33 ghz cpu
256 MB RAM SD

My Windows XP System Properties reports that my Athlon MP cpu is a Duron CPU and recently I have viewed it with Asus Probe and CPU-Z and both report as Athlon. Recently it has failed to boot. I have put the HDD into another machine and it boots fine.

I just want to know , is it the HAL.dll that is corrupt or do I need to reinstall Windows ?

well, I would like to say that sounds like typical windows, but ya know, it is typical windows lol. Is this a recent problem? If it were me Id back up my files, and reinstall windows, since I find windows xp needs reformatted every 6 months to a year due to the registry getting corrupt and im to cheap to buy registry fix tools. Id say your bios would need updated except that CPUZ recognizes the proper CPU which means the bios is recognizing it correctly, windows is just dumb. but on that note, is it up to date? or did this happen after an update was installed, because windows, if it doesnt recognize a CPU, will just match it up with the closest CPU it does recognize and list it as that, so it could be a update/lack of an update that could be causing it as well. hard to tell with the information at hand.

Primary system: Motherboard: ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3, Processor: AMD Phenom II x4 945, Memory: 8 gigs of Patriot G2 DDR3 1600, Video: ASUS ATI 4890 and a Saphire 4890 in Crossfire, Storage: 1 WD 500 gig HD, 1 Hitachi 500 gig HD, and Power supply: Coolermaster 750 watt, OS: Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.
Media Center: Motherboard: Gigabyte mp61p-S3, Processor: AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+, Memory: 6 gigs Patriot DDR2 800, Video: Saphire 4850, Storage: 500 gig Hitachi, PSU: OCZ Fatal1ty 550 watt modular PSU, OS: Windows 7 Ultimate.

Have you tried installing AMD's processor drivers? I remember having to do this with some of the early AMD processors that had a value rating instead of just a processor speed rating.

thats possible to, Ive never really used an AMD processor that old, when that CPU was released I was still usin intel (I have since switched to AMD) but it seems to me it could indeed be a driver issue.
