I have a Gateway M-6750 notebook computer. A while back the computer just all of a suddden wouldn't power on, using either the AC adapter or the battery. I took it to Best Buy since it was under warranty still and they had to have Gateway work on it. In the mean time while it was out, I keep the 6 cell Li-ion battery. They had to replace a faulty mother board. Every since I got it back with the new mother board, the battery would charge, but only to a max of 30% and then would die very fast. I worked with Gateway on line and they first shipped me a new CMOS battery, which did nothing. They then have shipped me a new 6 cell Li-Ion battery. When I put in the new battery, it sometimes shows it as charging, but 50% of the time it shows as plugged in but "not charging". I have tried upgrading the Bios on the computer as well. The current Mother Board and Bios info is:
Board: Gateway 95.04
Bus Clock: 667 megahertz
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies LTD 95.10 04/08/2008
Now when I go into the Device Manager, it shows two device listed under the battery section: 1) Microsoft AC Adapter, and 2)Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery. It doesn't find the Gateway 6 cell Li-ion battery. Should I delete the other devices and try to scan for new hardware?
So I have also tried to recalibrate the battery. With this laptop and bios you are supposed to go into the bios and there is a setting for "Smart Learning for Battery". I enable this and save and exit the bios and as it is supposed, the smart learning of the battery (recalibration) starts immediately. However, every time it gets about 10% complete when it errors out and states the following: "Abnormal BAT". Not sure where to go from here. Any help pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
