No Icons, No Start, No Right Click, No Task ... No CD

Hi

Laptop with virus... downloaed the free AVG.... run it ... found effected viruses... cleaned it but then I had to reboot... I got only the background image, no icons, no start menu, no right click, no task manager... nothing... even on the safe mode... as soon as you log in ... it says saving your setting... and shuts down... and on top of all of that ... the CD is not being recognized by the laptop.... do you think an external CD will work? will I be able to reboot/formart it using an external cd?

Any other suggestion?

Did you check BIOS settings to "boot from CDROM?

Restart computer....Tap F2 key until POST...(ESC key on some models)...change settings for boot order and try again...

Does this look like an OldGrumpyBastard or what?
