Need to know how to change the permissions for these registry keys, all of my Wuauserv keys are corrupt.

I am the only person/admin on my laptop. I caught a nasty virus several weeks ago and after several scans from avast, avira, spybot, ad-ware, malwarebytes, trojan remover, ccleaner, HJT, and superantispyware I final got rid of it. However it changed all of my settings. including my autoupdate, Bits, etc... I have been able to get everything back up except the autoupdate.

I was scrolling through the registry and found under HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\services\wuauserv that my image path is %fystemroot%\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs.

Obviously this is wrong and it should read %Systemroot%. However when i right click it and try to change the permissions it keeps telling me that I cannot change it, access denied. I am logged in as the admin. I have tried to change it through services as well with no joy! Please help! thanks in advance.

Not quite sure if I understand the problem but I had a problem with Microsoft update and the following fixed it.

FIX FOR WINDOWS UPDATE WUAUSERV PROBLEM
Click on Start -> run -> type command: cmd and command prompt will appear. After you are in command prompt try the following commands.

net stop wuauserv
cd /d C:\windows\SoftwareDistribution
rd /s DataStore
net start wuauserv
Now try the service again

I am having a very similar problem, and have tried the command to start the service at the command prompt. The reply is "service is diabled".

Yeah, I have tried this method as well and no joy! I know its not a update problem because there was no problem until i caught the virus. It changed accessibility to several programs, of which I have fixed all but wuauserv. I keep getting Access Denied! Any suggestions?

Had the same problem - searched the web and found fix at www.eggheadcafe.com/conversation.aspx?messageid=34220017&threadid=33962466 - click on the post dated March 22, 2009 by BayAreaDav. It worked for me:)
