Help
Hello, I'm pretty sure I'm posting in the right area, i searched but couldn't find someone who already had my exact problem. I started my computer and it took a minute while saying detecting IDE drives. after a while it said "IDE channel 2 master: " that blank spots is where it usually shows my hard drives number. After that it said "disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter".
The hard drive is a western digital 500gb sata drive model number WD5000AAJS. I tried removing my my DVD-ROM but the same thing happened then i tried to to reinstall windows but i got "stop: 0x0000007f
I've also tried swithing the port it's plugged into. i don't have an extra cable to see if that's it. My motherboard is pcchips ag13+
I don't know what information to put up if you want to know more just ask. Since it doesn't say none while detecting IDE drives i think it knows somethings there it just can't read from it.

does your bios recognize it? you may have to go into the bios and enable IDE emulation (I think thats the name of the option to set)

I'll go and look for that now but it was working the day before so why would it stop now. the bios aren't resetting themselves so the battery is still good.

Swap cables (SATA and power) to the drive, plug the cable into another SATA port on the mobo. Chances are the drive is dead.

Im going to agree with dpunisher, if it was working and is no longer and you changed nothing, then you have a bad drive. You should be able to find a hard disk check utility from the hard drives manufacturers website.

i tried it once more today before i went out and got a new hard. and noticed its not detecting my DVD-Rom anymore. Could there be something else going wrong? I would hate to get a new hard drive and have it not work ethier

could in theory be the motherboard, but I bet if its a setting in your bios. is your DVDrw drive sata to?

No the dvd is on a IDE cable and is detected in my other computer with the same ide cable so both dvd and cable work. This computer is old and i cannot test the sata drive in it.

Have you tried replacing the CMOS battery?
I would...before deciding any hardware has failed.

check the CMOS battery and double check all your bios settings. sometimes you gotta tell the Bios to use the IDE.

finally got hold of a new battery it wasn't that. According to my motherboards tech support it isn't the motherboard ether.
