XP games in vista

I have a new computer which has Windows Vista Home Basic, but I have some games that worked in Windows XP, but now they don't work is there any software that I need to play these games.

There are several things you can try. You can run the game as administrator. You can also try running the game in compatibility mode with XP. To access either mode, right click on the game and select properties, then go to the compatibility tab. Also, some older games have patches for Vista so check on that. As a final note, I would also look into updating from Home Basic to Home Premium since Basic lacks many of the nicer features, such as Aero, that Premium has. Or you can wait for Windows 7 and update to that later on.

Another thing to take a look at is your graphics card in the new computer. If the system is running Vista Basic the graphics card is probably very basic as well. Check the specs on the graphics card and compare those to the requirments of the game you are trying to run.
