elise, I enjoy your honesty. There are so many who turn their noses up at the vices of others. As I have always said to others, what is your addiction? For we all have one. I'm just thankful that mine are now all legal...hmmm...how boring. But no matter the addiction, they are all the devil to conquer. As I have told my kids, you can pick up any bad habit at the snap of your fingers, and you will spend the rest of your life trying to break that bad habit. What a waste of time...so think before you do. Words of wisdom from an ex addict of cigarettes, caffeine, and cognac.

here are my reasons for legalizing marijuana:

1) we could tax it like alcohol and tobacco, huge revenue for government
2) i could argue that its less harmful than alcohol to our society
3) it gets you high
4) would reduce gang violence
5) would decrease mexicos war that is spilling over onto us
6) would decrease use of heavier drugs (since marijuana is the hardest drug to pass a drug test for)
7) people on weed are not violent, which happens regularly with alcohol

i mean i could think of others, but i guess people will shoot these down anyway. why should i make more of a case when the same people who believed that the weed stamp was legal will just try to shoot me down anyway?

down with the man. revolution my brothers. bring upon them the vengeance and justice they deserve.

Yeah Ryan, hook me up a new revolution, 'cause this one is a lie.

Sorry I was quoting a song burn1337, ask the Foo Fighters. Was an attempt at sarcasm, but I forgot sarcasm doesn't fly well in type.

Although I'm not going to be on topic with this comment, I know what song Pandy is refering to, "Learn To Fly" Lyrics

First verse quoted here, that should help answer the question a bit more burn1337

Run and tell all of the angels
This could take all night
Think I need a devil to help me get things right
Hook me up a new revolution
Cause this one is a lie

We sat around laughing and watched the last one die

I'll comment when I can read through this whole thread properly tomorrow, I promise :flowers:

If memory is right from my younger days it also used to be referred to as, "Hey man, forget about Tea Parties, let's have some WEE D Parties. Pass the Joint, Man."

This Song, from 30 odd years ago, although very popular till today was actually a Protest Song about legalizing Drugs back then. Makes you think about it?

I can't see the profitability of making an illegal drug legal. Think about it the government might get taxes but the local law enforcement and DEA loose the ability to seize property used or gained in connection to the illegal substance. That's not the millions in taxes the gov't would get but Billions of dollars they don't have have to spend because the DEA and such are supplying themselves. Just think of how many cars are seized every year and realize that out of all those cars every third one probably had a house, land, or other more expensive asset seized along with it.

I'm just depressed that this is apparently the most important thing on my generation's collective mind. Just do what you do.

No way is it a Modern Problem, Mate.

Most of all our Popular Songs from all over the World, from the 70's and 80's were protesting about something?

Here is another one from RedGum protesting about 19 year olds being Conscripted and sent to Nam, although slightly off Topic, very revelent to the debate going on now, because it shows the Power of Song that was used then and worth a listen. BTW it has been used by many Countries since as a Protest against War, including Canada and America.

Also this one one. Both with full permision from Aussies.

There are hundreds of songs from that Era that did the same on all sorts of Subjects. Maybe some of the younger people should really think about which way to go? Back then our Revolution just did a few things, but still never changed that much, just gave us Memories to pass on.

Think back even further to Al Capone and the Prohabition of Alcohol in America in the 20's. All it did was similar to what you just said? :trumpet: That was 50 years before the 70's.

Younger people will always stand up and speak up, that is their Right and most of the older people will listen to and support worthy causes, because we all did it. Some diddn't, just like now, Mate, but then that is human nature.

BTW, even our Traditional Song, Waltzing Matilda, from the 1800's was actually a Protest Song that is still used to this very day. Squatters were Landholders that took up huge areas of land and treated others with Contempt, using Police to enforce their way, similar to Iraq? This one from the Seekers was utilised by all involved to show a point in it. You can see that the three primarily involved Countries feature in it, as the three Troopers, one, two, three.

Abacus - Love the song ... Nice old one..

BlackSpyder - Ok so it is ok to have a drug illegal, so that billions of US dollars are shipped to other countries to people who sale it illegally. So that our government can spend billions upon billions of dollars to throw users or dealers in jail, support them, feed them, port them from jail to court, and court to jail, spend the billions of dollars every year of police funds so they can arrest these "criminals" instead of spending that money looking for cereal killers, or rapist's/sex offenders, or your car that got stolen, or your house that got broken into, or the people who sale illegal guns that get into the hands of some street punk kid, who ends up shooting your kid because he thinks he is big and bad...

Yes I want my government to spend billions of dollars putting people behind bars for using a plant that grows wild in some parts of the country. Yes I want these people to be put behind bars. Yes I do not want the police to protect me, my wife, and my child from people who may actually hurt us, or kill us. Yes I want to know that instead of finding the ass hole who kidnapped and raped someones 7 year old little girl is not going to be found because they decided to put someone in jail for the use of a plant that grows wild. Yes I want my government to spend billions upon billions of dollars to keep some kid who decided to try the use a plant and got caught at the wrong place at the wrong time, in jail and away from hurting people; instead of spending that money on my child's education, instead of spending that money on finding those sweet and nice people who would come to my house and kill me, instead spending that money to help open more jobs so we can get out of this recession. Yes I want to know that the rapist next door will get away with killing and raping innocent young girls, because too much money was spent on putting hundreds of people in jail for hurting everyone by having a joint, instead of spending the money on the case and uncovering the evidence that would have been found, if we didn't waist all the funds to protect against a plant that grows wild...
Can you feel the sarcasm? So there is no profitability? Please explain to me how the hell that is?

I apologize if anything I have said or will say offends/ed anyone... I just personally think it is morally, justifiably screwed up that some people would actually want to spend all that money that our government spends on putting these people behind bars, for the use a plant that has less recorded causes of death then Coffee, or Milk alone. I think it is utterly f*ck*d up that someone would say that this is not an important issue. This plant has done far far more good that it has ever done bad. But yet we spend more money trying to keep it illegal, and for what? So our kids can't play musical instruments in school? So our kids can't do after school activities? So our kids don't have teachers? So our neighbors, friends, and our selves, can not receive the justice that would be received if our government could afford it? and we sacrifice this and much much more... And for what do we sacrifice this for? So that more and more drug cartels can import more and more of this drug that should be legal, but is illegal and take more and more of our money? So that our kids will have the influence anyways, and that our kids will probably be more likely to do harder drugs, because our government can not afford to help us, with things like after school activities, so that the DEA and the Police force can run around like a chicken with it's head cut off playing all the mary-go-round games... Instead of spending that time doing justice for our country...
Yea, I guess there really isn't a profit in it... Though the profit we would get, could help us get the tires rolling in getting this country out of the recession...

Well opium is just a plant, so I guess that heroin and morphine are fine too. Coca is a plant, so I guess that cocaine is OK too. Heck, mushrooms are sort of a plant. So where do we draw the line?

groovicus - Though that is true... My point was, for a plant that "does" a lot of "good", why should we sacrifice all that so that big companies don't go out of business with the products that could be created by that same plant...
Though Mushrooms is not actually a plant, it is a fungus... Also yes coca may be a plant, and yes cocaine doesn't do us much good, in fact it does almost no good what so ever... But firstly, does it grow wild in our country? Does it have less of a death toll then Milk? Should we spend money incarcerating people for things that can not help, and do cause death with an easy dose, or should we spend money incarcerating people for using a plant that would take nearly as much weight of the plant as the person using the plant, in order to come to a lethal dosage?

My point was not to say that because something is a plant it shouldn't be illegal... My point was, for something that causes less death then the things we as people use on a daily basis, shouldn't be illegal...
Caffeine is a mind altering substance, but look it is sold around every corner damn near... Alcohol is a mind altering substance yet it is sold in most stores... Nicotine/tobacco is a mind altering substance, yet it is sold in a majority of stores... Aspirin is a mind altering substance, yet you can get it at any convenience store... Energy drinks is basically a mind altering substance, sold almost anywhere... All of these have a good amount of numbers for each of the being a cause of death, or a severe problem... Yet look we can get them anywhere, they are not illegal, they are not put down because they are mind altering substances... But they cause death, or cause severe to chronic problems, or they cause for the death of others... Yet they are legal... Now lets include heroin, cocain, lsd, peyote (which you left out), or the hundreds of other plants with hallucinogenic properties... Now... How many of these can produce clothing? How many of these can produce paper? How many of these can produce a clean alternative to fossil fuels? How many of these can help AIDS and Cancer patients? How many of these can actually help Neurological problems? Well we could go on for some time of all the good things marijuana can do for our country and our world...
