BleepingComputer.com: WMP encountered a problem error messsage

I am constantly getting an error when I try to play an audio CD saying that "windows media player has encountered a problem and needs to close." The only options I have is to send or not send an error report to microsoft then it closes. I went to microsoft's site but their fix isn't working. I have unistalled or rolled back WMP to version 9 and still have the problem. I have done another update to 11 and the problem still occurs. Not only is it with WMP but when I changed the association to open with Real player or another audio program I get the same message. I've googled the error but no clear fix for it. Here's what Microsoft suggested but it's not working. Any ideas.
