The Hard drive is a Fujitsu MHV2100AT PL

Just wondering ...do you have to have a partition on the hard drive for the operating system?

Thanks
Basil

There is an option when you install windows, from memory i think it says something like press "d" to delete the partition or something, this is given when you are asked where do you want to install windows (which HDD).

It takes a few seconds to erase the HDD, although at this stage it is not formatting the hdd, all it does is remove the partition tables. When you get further along in installing windows it format's the partition you told it to install in anyway.

here is a step-by-step guide to installing windows: http://www.getpcmemory.com/microsoft/how-t...allation-of-xp/

Note: at step 4 you will have to press "d" to delete your partition, then just follow the guide again...

This is great! ....these are the same screens that I've been getting from my HP Operating CD when I boot from CD ...but because I still have WinXp Operating system on my machine I've only be able to a perform a repair or I get warning about installing two set of the same operating system

have a look at step 4 - it will give you an option to press "d" to delete the windows (partition) that is there already.

KamakaZ,

I burned the ISO of Active KIllDisc and I'm wiping the hard drive (100GB) right now ...should take about one hour acording the the progress bar in Active KillDisc.

Not sure about the the partition when I go to clean install windows?

When I bought the computer there was a (D) partition on the machine that had the operating system on it ....my friend took the partition off when he tryed to help me...awhile back. So right now there is only the ( C ) drive

I'm not sure what to do after Active KillDisc is finished?

1. Does Windows offer an option to create a D partition ?

2. Do I need to use the Parition Magic that was mention to split my ( C ) hard drive into a (D) partition?

3. Do I really need a (D) partition ?

When I'm finished with Active KillDisc....I'll have a blank hard drive and would like to start over.
I've printed out the guide from the link you posted and Step 4 has me wondering.

Basil,

If you see step 4 then you are good to go. Press d then L This will remove your current partition. Step 6 is next... select quick format NTFS. XP will proceed with install. Once done system will be back to factory installed condition. Last statement is based on the info you provided about CD1 in an earlier post

LOL....All I've done so far was run the Active DiscKill and turn off the computer when it was finished.

I haven't started installing windows yet. I'm confused about the partition. Right now I have not made a seperate partition.

Should I just install windows on the ( C ) drive and not worrie about making a partition ( D ) ?
This machine only has one (100 GB ) hard drive.

No you do not need to create a D partition.

Just install windows on the formatted hard drive following the steps mentiond above.

The fear of not knowing

I wanted to say thanks to everyone for all the help.

1. Ran Active KillDisc
2. Installed my HP Recovery disc that had Windows XP on it.
3. Install my HP recovery disc that had updates for the hardware and factory installed software

All seems well with my computer.

Now I need to figure out how to connect to my secure wireless network inorder to get online so I can udate windows XP and all the other things that are needed.

Thanks again for helping me through this process....was very afraid of wiping the hard drive clean and not being able to run my dvd/cd drive for reinstall of the operating system.

Basil
