BleepingComputer.com: Profile Storage Space Exceeded Error!

Hello,

I am running Windows XP and I am getting a Windows error that is telling me that I have "Exceeded my profile storage space"

My computer is running horribly slow! There is a little yellow triangle with an exclamation point that is now replacing the former red circle with a white x through it.

I have attempted to delete unnecessary files, cookies, etc... to try and regain memory space..... but to no avail!

I did recently have a Trojan Horse attack that was eventually found/removed by Ad Aware and Norton.

Registry issue? Operating system issue? What is the Dealy-O?? I am ready to call "Ghostbusters"!

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune & save it to your desktop.

• Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  
• Under Main "Select Files to Delete" choose: Select All.
  
• Click the Empty Selected button.
  
• If you use Firefox browser click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
  
• Click the Empty Selected button.
  If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
  
• If you use Opera browser click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
  
• Click the Empty Selected button.
  If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
  
• Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Note: On Vista, "Windows Temp" is disabled. To empty "Windows Temp" ATF-Cleaner must be "Run as an Administrator".

Thanks for your ideas. Neither of these solutions worked. I have already deleted so much application data, I have moved all my files not only off the desktop but onto a flash drive in order to try to make more profile space, which worked until I did anything else and then I'm over limit again. It's not like I even have that much stuff on my computer in the first place. It really seems like something is wrong. Why do I even have a limit on my storage space? It's just my own laptop.

any other thoughts or ideas are definitely welcome.

Do you have Quota Management turned on in the properties of your harddrive?

Nope. It says disk quotas are disabled. I clicked on quota entries and admin was set for no limit (I am admin), but I thought maybe I should set my username as no limit too, so I did that. But I'm still getting the same error.

I'm having the same problem and it just started around the beginning of the month. I can't find any information about it. I have the same setup as you: my own personal use laptop. There is no reason I should have profile quotas enabled. Any help that can be provided would be extremely appreciated.

Make sure Spyware Protect 2009 virus is gone from your system.

1.Back up the selected branch of the registry by exporting.

• Click Start, and then click Run.
  
• In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK
  
• Locate and then click the key that contains the value that you want to edit
  In this case, that would be--->HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
  
• On the File menu, click Export.
  
• In the Save in box, select a location where you want to save the Registration Entries (.reg)
  
• In the File name box, type a file name, and then click Save.

2.Copy the contents of the following code box into a notepad.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]

Name the file as fix.reg, making sure save as type is set to " All Files ". It should look like
Double click it and an information box will pop up asking if you want to merge the information in the file into the registry, click yes.

I don't understand why people don't comment and thank people when something works?

Well, this has been the most help in ages! I had a problem with shutting down and a warning that my system profile file exceeded the limits. I followed the directions from one of the posts which stated to start with Malware ... and go from there. It worked. Many thanks.

Now, I have to work on another computer that refuses to stay up and running and wants to shut itself down no matter what!

I am using Windows XP home and I am having a problem with "Profile Storage". I followed the fix from sundavis of 5/24/09, but when I tried to merge the files I got an error saying the file needed to be binary to add it to the registry. I guess I am doing something wrong, but I don't know what. Any ideas will be appreciated.
