I just installed a CD R drive into my old computer.
(My motherboard fried on my new one so I am stuck with this PC)
Anyway, this computer is really old, Pentium 2, and didn't have a CD R drive. So I want to burn some videos and music to disk.
I took my old Aopen CRW5232/ARR CD R from another old PC and put it into this one. I did the proper installation making this drive slave as the other is master and used the right connectors. I then turned by computer on and went to the BIOS and turned the drive slot from "None" to "Auto." Nothing showed up there. I then rebooted again and let windows load. But no new drive was detected. I don't have an installation disk for the drive and I don't think it came with one.
I made sure it worked. I pressed open and it opened fine. Can I go ahead and burn stuff now, or do I have to make sure windows is detecting the drive before i do so.
I am using Windows XP pro on a P2 processor and the drive in question specs can be found here: Aop CDW5232/ARR
Any help would be appreciated.

If the original CD drive [Master] shows in My Computer
Remove the burner.set the jumper to CS [Cable Select]
Reinstall it
See if it works.
While you have it out inspect the pins for the ribbon cable & make sure none are bent.
