I'm so glad you asked
I'd like to join. I don't have an answer, other than: In my system it belongs to Verizon, I have their DSL. I found something once on some forum which said delete it. IIRC I did, then something didn't work. It might have been verizon support which is no support at all, so no point. Some days I see it in Zone Alarm, right next to svchost, as an important thing. Some days I don't. I think mail didn't go through when I killed it. I think it is spyware, but a necessary one. I do recall having a lot of errors on it last fall (Motive smartbridge encountered error has to close type of thing) but haven't seen any lately, yet I do see it in ZA sometimes. In ZA under programs a relative exists: MOTIVEPLUGIN_5.02.00.DLL. I can't be sure it's related. I don't know how to find out. I hope someone here has better answers and a final disposition of this thing |

Thanks so much to matchstich and tos226 for your insight. Now I know what it is and how to get rid of it. I hope to return the favor soon. Again, my thanks!!!!

I'm NOT an expert on this product but I did do a quick google and, like matchstich, came up with comments mostly along these lines:
QUOTE System tray icon for the Virtual Assistant from AT&T Broadband, used to communicate internet problems via the network rather than telephone. Available via desktop shortcut or Start -> Programs - not required And a lengthier description here: http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist_m.htm - which basically says you should uninstall it. Look for "MotiveSB", or similar, in your startup folder and delete the entry there if found. If there is no entry there go to Start>run and type msconfig - under the startup tab look for MotiveSB.exe and untick it. Doing this means the application is still installed and if your ISP "requires" it when you need support, you can go back to the All Programs menu and start it manually. More drastic (and what I would do if it were my PC) is look in Control Panel under 'Add and Remove Programs' and uninstall the application. I see you guys already have it sorted out while I was typing... Thank you, Rimmer.
I needed to hear it from here. I trust BC experts. I understand you're not the expert on THIS product, but I suspect you'd know good info from trash when you google better than some of us. The answersthatwork link is informative and certainly gives compelling reasons to trash it. I suspect Verizon will push it back though. |
