Hello,

Trying to spritz up my resume and I cannot open the file-the error message is three fold

When I try and open the doc I get:
doc. is locked for editing by another user (i am not an a network)

then it gives me an option to "read only", "merge contents later" or "notify when doc is available"

so I choose read only and get this:

word experienced an error trying to open the file, word cannot save due to a file permission error.

urgghhhh!

Sorry for not responding sooner, but I'm not real expert with Word type problems. Those are usually dealt with in the Business Applications forum located here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum16.html

But, as I'm an adventurous sort, I'll take a stab at this. I wonder if this is a permissions issues (although I've seen a similar problem recently, but can't remember where).

Go to Start and type in "Windows Explorer" (without the quotes)
At the top of the search box will be an entry for Windows Explorer, right click on it and select "Run as Administrator"
Navigate to the folder that holds the documents that you're having difficulty opening.
Right click on the folder and select "Properties"
Click on the Security tab, then on the Advanced button, then on the Owner tab
Then click on the Edit button, select your user name by left clicking on it once.
Then put a checkmark in the box named "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects"
Click on Apply, the click on OK in each dialog to exit the dialogs.

Then try opening the files and let us know if that works.
