If I wanted the minimum files to be on my desktop when I start the computer, I remember having to click run, but what do I type in the "Run" box to stop files from showing up on my desktop on start-up? Thank you. abx

I believe you're referring to, msconfig.

msconfig should not be used as a startup manager.
That's not what it was designed for.
msconfig, was designed as a troubleshooting tool.

Try to disable unnecessary programs that run at startup, from inside the program itself, using the Options menu.

To control Startup applications, that can't be disabled from the programs Option menu, use a third-party startup monitor.
Two good ones, are mike Lin's Startup Control Panel, and Startup Inspector.

Note:
Always research an entry before stopping it. Stopping the wrong entry could cripple a necessary program, causing problems.

If you have Windows Defender, you can control startup programs from there.

The easiest is to do the following:
1. start --> run --> msconfig
2. Click on the "startup" tab (furthest right)\
3. Unclick any items you don't want to load when windows starts.

I'll just add that you want to look at the Logon tab, if you use Autroruns. Leave everything else alone.
