What about Pioneer?

Sony is good, a lot of people like LG, I had trouble with the only one I ever owned. I currently have 2 Lite-On DVD drives and have never had a problem with either of them. One is a lightscribe burner the other is just a rom.. NEC is also good, I've owned a couple of those and had no problems..

I was looking at some good LGs and Samsungs online. Some are highly rated. Maybe picking from those two companies might work.

The second Sony you listed might be the better deal, but then again the LG looks god as well. The first Sony listed is lacking some good components!

Like Pioneer and LG. Slight nod to the LG because it auto booksets DVD+R to DVD-ROM. No idea on Sony as I haven't owned one.

i had a lg cd rw for about 6 years and its done well so i think lg should be good

the hp supports lightscribe and the sony does not
but the hp is 2.4x (DVD+R DL)
lol 2.4x is quite slow am i not right lol
the sony is DVD+R Double Layer Write: 8X
8x much faster
plus the hp is $17 dollers more lol in aus

is the ASUS DRW 1814BL any good
its nice and cheap and supports light scribe

I dealt with a person carrying that ASUS and they said it had poor compatibility. I think, from what it seems like, it may have trouble after a while. Possibly a firmware upgrade would do the trick. I don't own one, like I said it was just another person on another forum.

Have you considered a Samsung ?

I've been using the Samsung LightScribe DVD burners in all of my builds for sometime & haven't had one fail yret.
They also seem to handle any type of disk.
