Hi, I have a Compaq Presario V6000 with Vista Home Edition SP1. It is now inaccessible. When I turn on the laptop, I get the Compaq name and it stays there. It won't load into windows.
I can't get into Safe Mode when I hit F8, it just says 'Operating System Not Found'
I can't get into Setup when I hit F11.
I can hit Escape to get to 'Change Boot Order' and it gives me the info of my laptop, like the Bios version, CPU stepping and it also says 2 CPU's detected. It also has some more info like Cache and ram etc, then it goes to the boot to cd. I insert the Vista Repair CD, and it can't do any of the options on that window except for the Dos window.
I need someone to tell me if there is anything else I can try. I don't want to lose the files and folders etc, in it.
Please help.

Newer Compaq's have other options for diagnostics - does yours have these? If so, try running a test on the hard drive, and any other diagnostics that are there.
If you don't have the diagnositics, try this bootable hard drive test: http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm#DFT
Read the directions carefully.
If you need assistance burning an ISO image, see this link: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic201611.html
