Okay so I had to reinstall my Vista operating system, backed up everything to an external hardrive by performing backup prior to losing older Vista, now how to I get all the information and programs back onto my laptop?

Seems that I have the backup showing but cannot get anything to move all the info. back onto the laptop.........HELP....!

The first issue is that you likely don't have permission to use the files on your external drive. If this is the case, you'll have to take ownership of the files: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic42756.html

The second issue to check would be to see if your drivers are installed. Go to Start and type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Let us know if you find any red x's or yellow !'s there.

Next is the issue of moving things. How are you trying to move things? You won't be able to move your programs back onto your new hard drive - as they just won't work there. You should be able to recover your data/files tho.
