BleepingComputer.com: Realtek HD audio problem

Hi guys,
I'm having a problem getting the audio driver to load, I had aroblem with my computer crashing (posted on xp forum) traced the fault to the sound card, went to the motherboard web site and donloaded the driver upgrade, since then i have had the problem.
the update will not load fully, a box pops up with "microsoft bus driver should be loaded in your system before installing realtek HD audio driver".
I have "gooogled" the fault but really am not getting very far with the problem.
I have downloaded the hotfix KB835221 and KB888111 and tried both but no success,
does anyone hav any other suggestions.

motherboard is-gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H
windows XP pro service pack 3

the computer is 1 week old and the original install had the sound working but a stated above it was crashing the PC

If you have the driver disk for the motherboard put it in the CD drive

If it starts close it but leave the disk in the drive.

Open the Contro Panel
Double click the System icon
When the box opens click on the Hardware tab
Open the Device Manager
You should have the SM Bus should be listed as a "unknown" device
right click on it & click Update driver
When the box opens select Not this time
Choose to do a Install from a list in specific locaition
The Search CD should be selected by default
Click Next.
It should find the bus & install it.

The problem you are having usually occures if SP3 is installed on XP before the sound driver.

Download the Chipset drivers & install them
You need the 1st. one listed under Chipset.

followed the instructions, right up to "right click on it & update drivers" got the box to update driver, click and nothing happened, it just sat there, any further ideas,

the unknown device is the sound,video & game controllers

You need the bus driver installed before the sound driver will install.

If you put the driver disk in the drive & directed the updater to search it the SM Bus should have been found & installed.

I have the Asis motherboard in my sig [P5KPL-VM] it also has the Realtek HD audio.
I had the same problem you are having.
I solved the problem by downloading a Gigabyte Azalia sound driver & installing it .

If you do a google for Gigabyte Azalia driver download you should be able to find it.

Keep in mind it doesn't neccessarily have to be for your model motherboard.

[I used a Gigabyte Azailia driver on a Asus motherboard]

clicked the update driver but there was no reaction, it never even attempted to search anywhere, it just sat there,
I went into add new hardware and went through it that way, it searched the installation CD but still could not find it,
It looks as though i might have to un-install SP3 or choose a new driver

still trying to update my driver for the sound card, and it still is not having it,

now i know that the bus driver is on my system,
so what am i doing wrong

You need the Realtek Azalia HD sound driver.

I have the same thing & had the same problem.

I had to download a Gigabyte driver to fix it & I have a Asus motherboard !

First go to your motherboard manufacturers website & download the Chipset [INF] drivers & install them.

Download this driver & try it.

tried all your steps but still had a problem, out of desperation i took my computer to my local shop, and he had a go, he had no joy either but he did diagnose a problem with windows, so the recomendation is re install windows and start again.
apparently it looks like some of the windows files are corrupt so a clean install for me,

If you do a clean install & the disk you use doesn't have Service Pack 3 on it install your sound drivers BEFORE you install SP 3 .

I now have sound again, but the old problem of crashing while on the internet has re-appeared but with a different error code,
so i will post back in windows xp section,
