BleepingComputer.com: The system cannot log you on now because the domain <domain name> is not available.

Hi,

I have a problem logging in period either under user "administrator" or the main user who is also admin.
During login I get the Logon Message "The System Cannot Log You On Now Because The Domain <domain Name> Is Not Availabe."
I have tried booting safe mode, boot in Last Known Working Configuration, etc and nothing works. I have a copy of Windows XP Media
Edition 2005 from someone which is what the laptop came preinstalled with and tried to repair it in case of any errors. But at bootup it
just stalls a black screen with the " _ " blinking.

Then it shows four lines...

And starting up windows to the logon screen.

I have tried the disk on my Vista laptop just to see if it boots up from the disk, and it does boot up to a blue screen with Windows Installation Setup.
So, I am sure the disk works. I am stumped as to where to go from here. Thanks for the help in advance.

As this is not my laptop, and a friends, all I know is that it's installed with Windows XP Media Edition 2005 and is a Toshiba Satellite M115-S3094.

Yea but the reason is because I have the Windows XP Installation Disk inserted. It doesnt hang on the black screen,
if I take it out.

The problem is I am trying to fix the logon error, "The System Cannot Log You On Now Because The Domain <domain Name> Is Not Available"

yea through some research, I came across that article already, the laptop isn't under any corporate
network or w/e. But I did download the hotfix anyways since I'm having the result of the symptom and
was going to give it a shot and install anyways.

But there is a catch, I have no way of installing this hotfix without first logging in. Can't login with admin
user name, main user name (w/ admin rights), or safe mode.

So what's another solution?

I haven't anything to add...yours is the first time I've seen anyone post this particular error message.

Every instance that I've looked at...involves logging onto an actual domain and none of them seem to be locked out of the system (which is why the hotfix works).

About all I can suggest is a repair install of XP.

Have you checked the BIOS boot options? You are trying to boot from the hard drive, right?

yea it boots from the harddrive but when i try to install or repair windows xp from pushing F12 and booting
from the Cd/Dvd rom. It seems like it's trying to read the disk then fails as I have explained in the first post,
or after a while it just starts up and shows the welcome logon screen.

Any other suggestions?

I have no idea what you are referring to when you talk about F12.

Boot options on a system are permanently set in the BIOS, without recourse to any F12 key.

Hang on until someone who understands what you are referring to...reads your post.

I was referring to using F12 to pick a boot option. In another word, choose CD/DVD drive as my bootup option.

Ok thanks. Anyone, have any idea of what I can do? The only thing I can think of is find another Windows XP
disc, even though I have one that would start up on another laptop.

I'm sure theres some way to fix this problem! And I don't want to bring it in to a Toshiba Computer Tech.
And pay big bucks for them to fix this.
