(Background: Vista laptop, one year old, but hardly used. I'm upgrading the security, and checking that all is well.)

WinPatrol lists this, under Startup Programs:
Title: BisonInst0402 Command: BR040286.exe Company: Bison Inc. Type: HKLM_RUN

It's not in the Startup database here; and Google doesn't give links to any real infomation.

Can anyone advise on whether this item is OK?

Many thanks.

Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around

thank you garmanma. Yes, there's a webcam, and the laptop is an Acer - as mentioned in the link you supplied (another useful-looking site to bookmark).

Will the information I've given in my first post, together with the link, be enough to add this item to the database? Or shall I post again, with any more info I can glean from Hijackthis or Autoruns?

There is no need to post a HJT log just because of this entry
What is import about startup entries is their location
The correct file path for BR040286.exe is %windir%
