My laptop won't startup regularly

my laptop has a mind of its own, it turns on when it feels like. The one time for the week that it turned on, i decided to wipe it clean and reinstall vista. i also downloaded tuneup utilities and one of the problems it detected was something to do with startup prefetch data (not exactly sure if thats the correct order)... i don't know if that has anything to do with my problem..... i thought all my problems would've been gone after the re installation of vista but the problem still exists. When i press the power button it won't startup :S


can ne one help me?

What method do you use to shut it down or are you using hibernation?
Some times corrupt video drivers can cause problems with the Energy settings
What is the make and model of the laptop?

i normally go to start and click shut down. But when i try to restart it nothing happens, it doesn't boot.
It is a HP Pavilion dv 2000

Do any lights flash or turn on? If you listen closely, can you here the fans turn on? Does the adapter plug into the laptop feel tight?
Do you know anyone with a multimeter that can check the power module to make sure it's working?
