For one thing, I'm wondering if the web-based Karpasky could be run with Firefox via Ubuntu Live to check out a WinXP system drive... I haven't set up The Bad Teenager's network access yet...

Booting an Ubuntu Live disk, to check a Windows XP Box? Is there a way to do this?

Generally web based scans use ActiveX. ActiveX does not work in Linux.
If you want to scan from a Linux LiveCD you might want to check out
