Alt Car? laptop keyboard help

i hope this is the right section

i have a sony vaio vgncs110d

i have a key wit red writing called "Alt Car"... and there are corresponding red symbols on various other keys...

my question is, how do i access these keys?... i've tried holdong down alt car while pressin the othe keys and the symbols dont work... anyone know how to get this thing to work?
