Microsoft Picture It 2002 crashes when I try to open a photo. Tried to download a patch that was listed in this site but was told it was for a different verison of Picture It.

The best advice i can really give for that is to try and reinstall teh program. I've never used it to know what exactly you're talking about. I'm assuming its from an office bundle or something of the sort.

You'll probably have to browse for an older version patch. '02 is kinda old for software.
