I don't see the connection between your browser and a virus scan, unless your doing an online scan. But there's no point in doing a McAfee online scan if you have McAfee anti-virus already installed in your system.
Some suggestions:
1. Update your anti-virus online then reboot in Safe Mode and run a full system scan there.
2. Try this online scan under Firefox:
Trend Micro Housecall - http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/enterprise...call_launch.php
(European version, supports Netscape, Mozilla, Firefox and Opera)
3.Do you have any anti-spyware installed? If not download and update all of the following:
If you are not sure how to boot in Safe Mode there is a tutorial here: Safe Mode
See if that helps

Thanks Rimmer for the quick post. Since you said that there was no point in doing an online scan if McAfee antivirus was alreading installed, I'm giving in to your advice. I did print out your steps and will follow them should the need arise.
