BleepingComputer.com: acer aspire one problems

I have an acer apsire one 8.5. It had windows XP and when it gets to the welcome page - I get the page where I put in my password and then nothing. The next page that appears is a backdrop page. The curser will turn blue then white - thats all. When I boot into safe mode- all I get is a blank page ( black) with safe mode in each corner. Thats all. What can I do? Any suggestions. It will not go to the page with the icons on it and the start button in the lower left corner.

Can you boot into Safe Mode? If you can try doing a System Restore.

Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> System Restore.

When this opens make sure that "Restore my computer to an earlier time" is chosen, and click on Next>.
The dates appearing in bold are the dates that you can restore to, click on the date that you want and then click Next> to start the System Restore, you may get the message telling you that you will have to restart your computer to start, click ok. When the computer restarts and you have logged on as the administrator a Restoration Complete page will appear, click on OK to complete the process.

I am unable to get to the start key also I can not boot into safe mode. Anyother suggestions. Thanks

If you have a Windows Installation CD you can access Recovery Console to do some troubleshooting.

• Insert the Windows XP CD into your CD drive and restart your computer. If you are prompted, select any options required to start (boot) from the CD.
  
• When the text-based part of Setup begins, follow the prompts. Select the repair or recover option by pressing R.
  
• If you have a dual-boot or multiboot system, select the installation that you want to access from the Recovery Console.
  
• When you are prompted, type the Administrator password.
  
• Type in chkdsk /p /r and press enter.

The acer aspire one does not have a cd drive and it did not come with a CD.

You can download an .iso file and burn it to bootable CD, using an .iso-burn program. This will allow you to run Recovery Console commands.

I finally figured it out. the erecovery is alt and f10 key kit at the same time. This will restore everything back to the original settings. So if anyone has a problem with their acer aspire one and wants to restore it - his alt + F10 key at the same time.
