i went to update yahoo messenger (which i have done many times before with no problems) and when i tried to run the update i got an error message saying windows cannot find system32\taskkill.exe...i tried to download it off the internet as well as a friend sent taskkill.exe in an email, but when i try to open it a black command promt window flashes across my screen and then its gone! Does anyone have any ideas about what i can do to get this file back?.I tried restore but that did not work either since i have no idea when i lost this file.Any help is much appreciated thanks...Bob

I believe that file/command exists only in XP Pro, http://www.computerhope.com/taskkill.htm

If you have XP Home installed, you would not have such a file on your system.

I have no idea what the effect would be of trying to install file into XP Home...which doesn't belong there.

It sounds like Yahoo messenger wasn't running when you updated previously. The updater wouldn't try to kill it if it wasn't running. Try updating after you check that it's not running and see if it completes.

(just guessing since I don't do messenger type apps)
