because I've exhausted my knowledge bank.

my laptop wont connect to any wireless networks.

it has great signal, it just wont connect.

and when it manages to, its limited access.

it worked fine for awhile, and then it just stopped.

My wife's Toshiba laptop has a wireless button on the front which she keeps accidently catching on her belt buckel leaving her without connection. The first time it happened it has us completely foxed.

Is your wireless ability turned off?

not that i know of.

i'm using a gateway with vista

Here are some troubleshooting techniques to determine and isolate your problem:

1. Check to make sure your labtop is recieving suffiecient power, plug in power cable. Sometimes when running low on battery power, it can disconnect you from the wireless.

2. Does your wireless network have any security, such as WEP, WPA, WPA2, etc? You can check this by going into your router settings > security tab. Let me know please.

3. Is your computer IP address settings set to DHCP (Automatic) or manually configured (Static)? Please let me know.
Start>Control Panel>Classic View>Network Connections>[Select your connection]>Right Click - Status>Support>Address Type:???

i have no idea how, but it works again.

i sat the laptop on top of the router, and restarted it.


manually connected, and it worked.

took it into my living room, and it still worked.

so i guess its fixed?

Sometimes, only restarting a PC can fix many problems. If your issue comes back, i would then recommend taking an action to prevent it happening again. One reason why you could of had an issue with your wireless connection is because it could of just needed to be refreshed, which is why restarting computer was an alternative solution.
