Yesterday, all of a sudden my ethernet connection on my desktop computer stopped working. I get the "limited connectivity" message.
I have tried reinstalling the ethernet and chipset drivers for my motherboard with no success. (It is built into my motherboard and not a separate add-on card.)
It doesn't work when it is connected directly to the cable modem either.
I tried entering in the IP information into the TCP/IP settings and that doesn't work. I can't even connect to the setup page for the router.
I tried connecting my laptop with the same ethernet cable and it works fine.
I also have a wireless card in my desktop and I can connect fine via wireless.
This leads me to believe something is wrong with the physical ethernet port or settings specific to that port. I have no idea what else to try though. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

If everything in device manager is fine? network connections and properties for the device?
Then I would suspect a failing hardware issue unless the connection on the back of the computer is dirty(it's hard to clean)
A few times I have had to disable other devices to free up resources for windows

The problem has been fixed. I have been having other computer issues and tried updating my BIOS. It appears that the new BIOS is the problem, because I downgraded and now I can connect fine. Thanks for your help.
