private data all cleared can i get it back??

what if someone cleared the private data there is seriously no way to get that back is there?
didn't think so but just wondered

OK um..the history I'm talking about the history..and its a Widnows Vista anymore?

We need more information. What OS = operating system, and what files are you talking about?
